Not everyone is into dance, but many people are and there is a growing interest in international dance. Throughout the world, Gaga dance has taken hold of underground environments, hipsters and artists, even seniors and those who know that the body must be looked after, and that mind and body are one. Ohad Naharin, Bat Sheva Dance Company’s leader for many years, and one of the world’s most renowned choreographers, has been portrayed several times by the director-pair the Heyman Brothers. These turned into two terrific and very different documentaries about the father of Gaga and about Gaga dance.
In Denmark, several professional dancers have traveled to take the Gaga education in Tel Aviv, and Copenhagen can supply some of the best teachers in the world. We therefore present a unique program of film, dance, dance and film on March 1 at Forsøgsstationen (The Lab Station) on Sdr Boulevard.

4:00 pm + workshop before film
Director: Tomer Heymann
Language: Engelsk & hebraisk med engelske undertekster
Year, Country: 2007, Israel & USA
Genre: Dokumentar
Length: 52 min.
Ohad Naharin is Israel’s “rock star” choreographer, and artistic director of Batsheva Dance Company. He specializes in getting world-class dancers to move from their guts—not the mirror—by teaching them what he playfully calls “Gaga” his unique language of movement. In this dynamic close-up documentary, veteran Israeli filmmaker Tomer Heymann renders a candid portrait of the movement and the man through an in-depth look at Naharin’s rehearsal process with Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet of New York City. Heymann masterfully elicits a series of “Notes on Dance”from his subject, climaxing in a denouement reminiscent of My Dinner with André in leotards and tights. See some of the world’s greatest dancers let go of everything they know as they strive to fulfill Naharin’s vision, and their own deepest desires.
